2022 Competition

Entry Requirements and Procedures

HOW TO ENTER

  • Submit your entry fee (click to go to PayPal) CLOSED

  • E-mail greatplainsmarimba@gmail.com with the subject "2022 Application Fee Paid"

  • You will be given access to a Dropbox folder to upload your round 1 files by the deadline (files should be uploaded by end of day Monday, May 2, 2022 - previously April 18, 2022)

  • Contestants will be notified mid-May whether they advanced to semi-finals along with the audio round judge's comments

  • Once participants have entered the competition, no refunds will be awarded.

ROUND 1 - AUDIO

due May 2, 2022 (previously) April 18, 2022

  • Audio-only, in mp3 format (16-bit, 192 kbps)

  • Editing of the performance is prohibited; each piece must be recorded in one take; individual movements may be recorded separately. Editing multiple pieces/movements into one file is allowed, so long as the performance is not altered in any way

  • High School Solo and Collegiate/Open entrants will submit one mp3 file and scanned PDF of the score

  • Format: COMPOSERLASTNAME_PIECE TITLE_MOVEMENT

    • Example: An entrant submits the Prelude from J.S. Bach's Suite no. 4 for solo cello​

    • Example file name: BACH_SUITE NO 4_PRELUDE

  • Round 1 repertoire requirements:

    • High School Solo - one piece (10 minutes maximum)​

    • Collegiate/Open Solo - one piece (15 minutes maximum)

    • Open Duo - Open Duo category will not require audio submission for round 1; instead, the competition will advance the first 15 duos to submit to the live semi-final round.

  • NOTE - for 2022 only, the audio round repertoire requirement is open. That is, performers may select any one work (in one or more movements, within the timeframe allowed) to submit.

ROUND 2 - SEMI-FINALS

in-person in Oklahoma City, July 6-9, 2022

  • Performers that advance will check in on the evening of July 6 and will be assigned their competition slot (High School Solo and Open Duo Semi-Finals are on July 7; Collegiate/Open Solo Semi-Finals are on July 8)

  • Round 2 repertoire requirements:

    • High School Solo - one piece from the list (may repeat from the recorded round - entrants may choose a piece from the Collegiate/Open Solo list)

    • Collegiate/Open Solo - two pieces from the list, one from each category (may repeat from the recorded round)

    • Open Duo - one piece from the list and one piece of your choice

  • Finalists will be announced the evening of July 8

ROUND 3 - FINALS

in-person in Oklahoma City, July 9, 2022

  • Round 3 repertoire requirements:

    • High School Solo - one piece from the list (entrants may choose a piece from the Collegiate/Open Solo list) and one piece of your choice - at least one piece must be new (not performed/recorded in either previous round)

    • Collegiate/Open Solo - two pieces: the compulsory piece provided to all semi-finalists, and one new piece that has not been performed during either previous round

    • Open Duo - one piece from the list and one piece of your choice - at least one piece must be new (not performed in the previous round)

  • Final results will be announced the afternoon of July 9th
