Entry Requirements and Procedures

HOW TO ENTER

  • Timeline

    • January 15 - Registration opens​

    • March 31 - Early Bird Registration closes

    • April 15 - Registration closes; all Round 1 recordings are due by midnight CST

    • First half of May - Semi-finalists announced

    • July 10-13 - Semi-final and Final rounds in Oklahoma City

  • Registration Fees

    • Early Bird (before April 1)​

      • High School - ​$40 USD

      • Collegiate/Open - $55 USD

      • Duo - $75 USD

    • Standard (beginning on April 1)​

      • High School - ​$50 USD

      • Collegiate/Open - $75 USD

      • Duo - $100 USD

  • To register (REGISTRATION FOR 2024 IS CLOSED)

    • Pay the registration fee via the appropriate PayPal link:

      • High School - $50 USD

      • Collegiate/Open - $75 USD

      • Duo - $100 USD

  • Email a screencap of your PayPal receipt, as well as your name and category to greatplainsmarimba@gmail.com

  • You will be emailed a Dropbox link where you will upload your mp3s and scores (see Round 1 procedures below)

  • Once participants have entered the competition, no refunds will be awarded.

ROUND 1 - AUDIO

due April 15th, 2024

  • Audio-only, in mp3 format (16-bit, 192 kbps)

  • Editing of the performance is prohibited; each piece must be recorded in one take; individual movements may be recorded separately. Editing multiple pieces/movements into one file is allowed, so long as the performance is not altered in any way

  • High School Solo and Collegiate/Open entrants will submit one mp3 file and scanned PDF of the score

  • Format: COMPOSERLASTNAME_PIECE TITLE_MOVEMENT

    • Example: An entrant submits the Prelude from J.S. Bach's Suite no. 4 for solo cello​

    • Example file name: BACH_SUITE NO 4_PRELUDE

  • Round 1 repertoire requirements:

    • High School Solo - one piece from the list (10 minutes maximum)​

    • Collegiate/Open Solo - one movement from any work by J.S. Bach (for audio round ONLY) and one piece from the list (15 minutes maximum)

    • Open Duo - Open Duo category will not require audio submission for round 1; instead, the competition will advance the first 15 duos to submit to the live semi-final round.

ROUND 2 - SEMI-FINALS

in-person in Oklahoma City July 10th-12th, 2024​

  • Performers that advance will check in on the evening of July 11th and morning of July 12th. Semi-finals competition will be on July 11th and 12th.

  • Round 2 repertoire requirements (please email us if your desired piece is not on the required lists):

    • High School Solo - one piece from the list (may repeat from the recorded round - entrants may choose a piece from the Collegiate/Open Solo list)

    • Collegiate/Open Solo - two pieces from the list, one from each category (may repeat from the recorded round)

      • J.S. Bach movement must be from the list!​

    • Open Duo - one piece from the list and one piece of your choice

  • Finalists will be announced the evening of July 12th, 2024.

ROUND 3 - FINALS

in-person in Oklahoma City on July 13th, 2024

  • Round 3 repertoire requirements (please email us if your desired piece is not on the required lists):

    • High School Solo - one piece of your choice (not performed/recorded in either previous round) and the compulsory piece (announced when semi-finalists are announced in early May) (12 minutes maximum performance time)

    • Collegiate/Open Solo - two pieces: the compulsory piece provided to all semi-finalists, and one new piece that has not been performed during either previous round (20 minutes maximum performance time)

    • Open Duo - two pieces: the compulsory piece provided to all semi-finalists and one piece of your choice that has not performed in any previous round (20 minutes maximum performance time)

  • Final results will be announced the afternoon of July 13th, 2024.
